The Top 5 Questions from the Recent StudyMate Class Webinars
Our recent webinars on StudyMate Class each included a question-and-answer period. Here are five of the most popular questions — and answers!
We use StudyMate Author. Can the same content from those activities be used in StudyMate Class?
Absolutely. A key goal of StudyMate Class is to make it easy to use existing content. The Import feature in StudyMate Class, located at the bottom of the Edit tab, can be used to bring in items from a StudyMate Author project. Instructors can also import certain types of questions from Respondus 4.0 or select items directly from a publisher test bank.
Can questions created in StudyMate Class be copied to the exam tool in my online course?
Yes. The Export feature provides a seamless way to copy multiple choice items from a StudyMate Class project to the native assessment tool in your learning system. Simply select the questions to be copied and follow the onscreen instructions. Take advantage of this feature by having students create multiple choice questions in a StudyMate Class project. Give bonus points for students who create the best questions, and tell the class that a certain number will appear on the next exam.
What information is available in StudyMate Class for grading purposes?
The Grade tab in StudyMate Class provides a variety of information for monitoring and grading students. The dashboard gives an overview of activity for the entire class. Instructors can then drill down for each student to see the number of activities viewed, as well as the number of items that were added or edited. From the Grade tab, the instructor can enter a grade for the student and it will be automatically populated in the Gradebook or Grade Center in the online course.
Can an instructor see what changes were made by students in a StudyMate Class project?
There are two ways to see the Edit History of items in a StudyMate Class project. On the Edit tab, click Expanded View. The option to view the Edit History will appear for any item that has been edited. Each change to an item is clearly shown. The second method for viewing editing history is available from the Grade tab. Simply click a student name to view the editing history for each item that was authored or edited by that person.
What is the difference between the iPhone app and the mobile solution that uses a browser?
When StudyMate Class is accessed with a browser from a mobile device, it serves up custom pages for that particular device. All the main features are available in StudyMate Class when using this approach, just as with a browser on a computer.
The iPhone/iPad app, called StudyMate LMS Edition, is available for free from iTunes. After an initial setup, the app will perform a synchronization process each time it’s started to get the latest StudyMate Class data available for that user. From there, the user can work online or offline to view activities and games. A key advantage of the iPhone app is that it doesn’t require a login each time, and all StudyMate Class projects are neatly shown in a list for each course (saving navigation time).
However, you can only access the “View” tab in the iPhone app, not other tabs like Edit, Settings, Grade, etc.
